A historical pocket watch made for Ethiopian Emperor Menelik II (1844 – 1913), “The Negus Watch”, dating from 1893, is displayed during an auction preview for the media at Sotheby’s in Geneva, Switzerland, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009.

The auction Magnificent Jewels, will go on sale November 17 in Geneva.

The Watch was a gift to Leon Chefneux in recognition of his contribution to the implementation of Ethiopia’s first railway line, as inscribed on the inside of the case ‘Don de Sa Majeste Menelik II Empereur d’Ethiopie’.

The yellow gold chronometer pocket watch’s case embraces a white enamel dial. It exhibits a blue and white enamel embellishment, Ethiopian polychrome symbols, used in place of hour markers, subsidiary seconds, a white enamel replacement dial, as well as a back cover, suggestive of the monarch’s crown, infoniac.com says.

    The watch was given to Emperor Menelik as a gift by the French Gov. for doing business deal with them. he didnt give it back to them to the French man as a gift. Its just to confuse people so that the person who stole it will not be cought. let me ask again, where was the watch all this time? who is the first saler now? is Leon still alive to sale the watch? did Leon sale this watch from France or Ethiopia? is his family still around to sale this watch? if so, who are they, where are they? I have being tell every one this watch was in the hand of the late crown prince here in America. his servant stole it alone with other jewlery and they reported it to the police, but some how he gote away with it he was saleing the jewlery with the help of some people as he told us but saved the watch that we see in the picture exactly the way he describe it.because he lies a lote, we didnt beleive him then but now we do after we so the watch being sold in an auction. the man is a thief and a canartist who have hurt so many people including the royal family. he had an air time every sunday calling him self a general which is a lie. now he is in ethiopia. they say he is canning people there to saying he is rich. By the way, some say he helped yehadeg for the elctions saying he is a representative for the Crown councel cold Ma Anbessa. he should be investigated for all the crime he has commited and the watch should be returned to thiopian meseum.
